Our Sincerest Apologies
Sorry everyone for the long absence of updates to the site, but we promise that will not happen again! Alright to quickly catch everyone up, the next upcoming event is the Annual Landmines radio show. The radio show will take place Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th. Our previous dates got scratched due to some unforeseen issues, but now these dates are official!

In other news, other events coming up this year include: Landmines Awareness Day, the end of the year Landmines Luau, and other events. More information will be up when it becomes available. Earlier this year on our annual Landmines Walk, we walked down to City Park from Hinkley, a distance a bit over 7 miles. At the end of the day everyone was tired, but glad that they walked for a good cause. The overall turnout of supporters was good and it was a very fun time.

Anyways thats all I have for you guys for now, I will post another update soon.

Overdue Updates
Sorry for the hiatus, folks. Now that it's the new semester, we're working double-time to get things done, and we'd certainly appreciate your help. Regarding the website, we've deligated updating responsibilities across the board to make sure you're up to date at all times. (If you haven't already, feel free to check out our Landmines Walk Gallery courtesy of Jordan Peterson on Picassa.)

Regarding upcoming projects, we have a few in the works. Here's a tentative list:

February - Hall Party
April - Teacher/Student Volleyball Game
May - Luau

Thanks to all of those who attended, and especially those who donated, at the IB ARMS meeting, and of course those at the conference in Oregon. Otherwise, we hope to see you at our next presentation on February 8th in Thornton. We'll be updating you as projects progress, and as always, thanks for the support!

CD Recording Wraps up

Production on the second annual CD is finished and details for it can be viewed on its page at the top. The master was sent out for reproduction over Thanksgiving Break, and we except copies will return for sale by December 11th. Make sure to pick up a copy for yourself and loved ones. We found out last year that they make great stocking stuffers!

The Radio Show Was a Success

For the past twenty-four hours, many of our task force members have been downing coffee and soda, trying to stay awake, so that they could bring to you more in-depth and detailed information about various aspects of the landmine problem over an internet radio stream. We raised approximately four-hundred dollars, but more importantly, we raised greater awareness to people all across the globe, including parts of Great Britain, Sweden, and other European countries.

While our DJs were doing their job, others were making blankets for an orphanage in Africa, while others still were crocheting (and learning to crochet) washcloths. One junior commented, “It’s actually very relaxing.” We also had a group of students making buttons with our logo and website on them.

Of course, the Radio Show could not have been a success without a few people behind the scenes who helped us set up all of the technology necessary to broadcast. At the school-level, Gary Sleap helped set up all of the necessary hardware for the show and configured it to work properly with what Larry Hoffman did for us at the district-level. Both men gave much of their time to help us set things up, and we cannot thank them enough.

We would also like to thank donors for their contributions by check and by Paypal. Thanks to Anne Bell, Christine Mitchell, Billy Ogle, Natalie Stone, Jan Lotter, and school administrator Mrs. Wright. Thanks go also to Mrs. Paulson and Mr. Dinkleman for supervising students during the show, so that a sick Mrs. Sundberg could get some rest.

While we wind down (and catch up on our sleep), we are still in the process of getting together our annual Landmines Walk. We will be walking from Hinkley High School to the Martin Luther King library on November 11th. We will be updating the website as more information is confirmed, so stay tuned.

New Website and Updates

Welcome to the Landmines Task Force’s website! Check back often for all of the latest news and information from the Force. We’ve been experimenting with a few new ideas as well as sticking with tried-and-true methods for both raising awareness and funds.

MySpace - To get the word out about the Landmine problem better to the high school demographic, we’ve registered with MySpace.com. Check us out!

Human Rights Pep Rally - We’ve been invited to set up a booth at the University of Denver’s Human Rights Pep rally where we will be selling bracelets. Additionally, members Kevin Bell, Jordan Peterson, and Keanan Cypher will be hosting a thirty-minute discussion. (Sep. 23rd at the University of Denver)

Hindu Celebration - On October 6th, thanks especially to Task Force member Tulsi Shah, we will be setting up a booth at [the Hindu Celebration], where we will collection donations, sell bracelets, etc.

24 Hour Radio-Thon - Additionally on October 6th from 6:00 PM to October 7th 6:00 PM, we will hold our annual 24 Hour Radio Show: twenty-four hours dedicated to promoting the issue and raising money. We will be broadcasting on an internet radio station, and information will be posted here as to how to listen.

These are only a few of the most current planned events for this year. We still have a walk, a CD, a hall party and many more things in store, so check back often!

Updates Forthcoming

Another school year has come, and with it, a new generation is added to the members of the Landmines Task Force. As indicated to some, the website will be undergoing changes in the upcoming week, and some downtime may be expected. However, the result of these changes will be greater organization, along with more regular updates, and a clear schedule/goals/etc. Hopefully, these changes will be completed by Monday, September 11th.

The Task Force has many new things planned for this year, and we're very excited to share with you what all it is we'll be doing. We hope to see you at our fundraising and awareness events, and hope this year will be even better than the last.

Along with information about upcoming events in the site update coming next Monday, also expect photos and some writing from a trip Chris Sundberg took over the summer with two of her students to Africa, to witness the impact of the Task Force and Adopt a Minefield on the lives of the people of Mozambique. Stay tuned!
