For the past twenty-four hours, many of our task force members have been downing coffee and soda, trying to stay awake, so that they could bring to you more in-depth and detailed information about various aspects of the landmine problem over an internet radio stream. We raised approximately four-hundred dollars, but more importantly, we raised greater awareness to people all across the globe, including parts of Great Britain, Sweden, and other European countries.
While our DJs were doing their job, others were making blankets for an orphanage in Africa, while others still were crocheting (and learning to crochet) washcloths. One junior commented, “It’s actually very relaxing.” We also had a group of students making buttons with our logo and website on them.
Of course, the Radio Show could not have been a success without a few people behind the scenes who helped us set up all of the technology necessary to broadcast. At the school-level, Gary Sleap helped set up all of the necessary hardware for the show and configured it to work properly with what Larry Hoffman did for us at the district-level. Both men gave much of their time to help us set things up, and we cannot thank them enough.
We would also like to thank donors for their contributions by check and by Paypal. Thanks to Anne Bell, Christine Mitchell, Billy Ogle, Natalie Stone, Jan Lotter, and school administrator Mrs. Wright. Thanks go also to Mrs. Paulson and Mr. Dinkleman for supervising students during the show, so that a sick Mrs. Sundberg could get some rest.
While we wind down (and catch up on our sleep), we are still in the process of getting together our annual Landmines Walk. We will be walking from Hinkley High School to the Martin Luther King library on November 11th. We will be updating the website as more information is confirmed, so stay tuned.
